We started our business in New York City, the place where different cultures co-exist, and open-mindedness and diversity are celebrated. Our working relationship with artists, designers, artisans, and other creatives, is always fresh and stimulating. Their products and creations reflect their lifestyles and timeliness.
Since our founding, we’ve consistently proposed lifestyle choices. We operated as buyers of clothing, accessories, and interior accessories for the Japanese market, and we worked in licensing and exporting/importing business.
Starting in 1999, we developed our original bath and home fragrance brand SMP. We also introduced both Japanese and U.S. products and engaged in import/export operations participating at principle U.S. trade fairs.
Through these experiences, we have had the opportunity to offer service unique to SMP’s artistic sense and viewpoint to Japanese, U.S., and European companies in ordering, merchandising, and product-planning-and-development consulting.
Starting in 2007, we entered a retail business with STYLE MEETS PEOPLE. With the theme “High-Quality Leisure Time,” our retail brand introduces consumers through coordination and styling to SMP original bath and home fragrances, furniture, and interior accessories, tableware, clothing, and other accessories, all with careful attention to materials, quality, and design. We also host events that featured approachable art for personal space and with textile design evoking seasonal colors.
SMP will continue to provide product design, sales, and consulting services with our goal: communication with those who resonate and share our sense of style.

Founded SPACE M PROJECTS, INC in New York
04/1993
Established a Japanese branch of the U.S. company in Daikanyama, Tokyo
10/1998
Moved the branch to Minami-Azabu, Tokyo and started its business as an office/showroom
12/1998
Founded a Japanese corporation, SPACE M PROJECTS JAPAN, Co, Ltd. in Hiroo, Tokyo
09/1999
Started product planning and development of the original brand of bath&home fragrances, “SMP”.
04/2001
Began wholesale of bath/home fragrance and interior accessory-related products in U.S./Canadian markets
04/2001
Exhibited for the first time at EX.TRACTS (A trade show of aroma & personal care related products) in New York
01/2002
Exhibited for the first time at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) – “Accent on Design”
04/2003
Upon opening the showroom, moved the New York corporate office to 225 Fifth Avenue
08/2003
Awarded the Best Allover Collection at NYIGF– “Accent on Design”
10/2004
Opened an experimental retail space, “SMP Lab/Shop + Gallery,” within our Hiroo, Tokyo showroom

Moved the New York corporate office and to 7 West 34th Street

Exhibited for the first time at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) held in New York

Exhibited for the first time in Interior Lifestyle Exhibition

Restarted the SMP Lab/Shop + Gallery in the conventional form of Showroom

Opened STYLE MEETS PEOPLE as a directly managed retail store in Tokyo Midtown, Roppongi

Began marketing and selling furniture as Japanese wholesale importer and distributor of BDDW (NY)

Moved the Japanese Corporation, SPACE M PROJECTS JAPAN, Co, Ltd. to Roppongi in Tokyo

Exhibited for the first time in AMBIENTE (Frankfurt)

Opened a time limited Pop-up shop on the 2nd Floor (International Floor) of Matsuya Ginza.
